By bronzeback During the days of the numerous Lake-Link political threads, a few us got to know each other pretty well, even though we had never met each other. We all had differences of opinions on various topics, but there was one thing we all had in common, the love for the outdoors, especially ice fishing. Someone suggested we should all get together and have a little ice-fishing outing. The lake was picked based on a geographically central location. Mauthe lake was the original location but we have since moved down the road to Forest Lake, which is, located in the Northern Unit of the Kettle Moraine Forest. I think it was Josh who coined the term "Quasi- Jamboree". But it was not a true jamboree by definition, there was no sponsor, no raffles and no prizes. It was just a few lake-linkers who wanted to put a face to the name, eat some food, drink some beer and watch some flags. We imposed only one rule, which is still in force today: No talking politics.During the first one, there was only a few of us that showed up. We all sat there in the cold wind and grilled out, drank beer, BS’ed and listened to the Mark Chmura trial on the radio. And we even managed to catch a few fish. Lifetime friendships were made that day, but little did we know a tradition was in the making. Since the first one, it has grown to over 30 people and I ’m sure it will increase as years go by. For those how have attended in the past, they know it’ s not about the fishing. It’s about the camaraderie, the food and the opportunity to make a new friend. This outing is one of many things that make Lake-Link great!Original attendees: Bennelli12, bronzeback, Josh, rpole and Stoney Point |
